Saying what is needed
We are completing a series which highlights our being Kingdom people of God, chosen
to accentuate and demonstrate His desires and purposes. John Wimber taught that the gifts of the
Spirit were not permanent possessions. Wimber taught that a believer does not permanently
have or own a specific gift (such as the gift of healing), there identifying language like: ‘I
have the gift of prophesy’, is a bit of a misnomer. Because, they were momentary “grace-lets”
(pieces of God’s Grace), the Holy Spirit distributes dynamically in a specific moment of need. *However, as Paul points out in 1a.1 Cor. 12:4-6 “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same
Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities,
but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. Therefore, as Wimber would point
out, ministries can be formed around the gifts i.e. Prophesy, healing etc. But because gifts are
situational, any Christian can potentially see the various manifestations of the Spirit, as God
*Wills.
